Dear Neighbor:
Thank you for visiting my website! I am excited to be running for State Representative of the 61st District, and I hope you will take some time to browse my site and learn a little bit about me and my candidacy.
I have been married to my childhood sweetheart, Lisa, for 23 years, and we have lived in Antioch for 11 years. We have three children, Robert, Kyle, Brandon, and a dog, Radar. Since I am not a career politician, many people have asked me why I am running for State Representative. I am just a small business owner and someone who loves our community. It has been a wonderful place to raise a family, enjoy the outdoors, and run a successful business. However, after years of feeling like my concerns were not being addressed in Springfield, I decided that Lake County residents need someone who will step up to the plate and go to bat and fight for them.
Small businesses are the back bone of this country. As a small business owner for 25 years, I want to bring my know-how to Springfield and balance the budget, create jobs and get Illinois' economy working again. I can help create jobs - I've already done that. I can exercise fiscal responsibility - I already do that in my business. I can prioritize spending and make the tough decisions. I also know the struggles/pain small business owners are currently facing in these tough economic times. In today's economy, from the large to the small businesses, we have all been affected somehow and this is what compels me to work very hard on behalf of Illinois families.
As a father, I am appalled at the prospect of laying off teachers and making drastic cuts to our childrens' education. We need to create jobs to generate more revenue, not sacrifice our childrens' futures--they are the future.
I am also a former police officer and an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) from the Lake Villa Rescue Squad in Lake Villa, IL. Public Safety has been and will always be an important part of my life. My family is also involved in public safety, my wife, Lisa is also a former EMT/CPR Instructor from the Lake Villa Rescue Squad. My oldest son, Robert, 18, is following in my footsteps, he was on the Lake County Sheriff's Department Explorer Program, as well as an explorer on the Fox Lake Police Department. He currently is an explorer on the Antioch Fire Department and is attending the College of Lake County Tech School and is taking their EMT program and he has recently successfully completed their fire fighting program.
As a former law enforcement officer and EMT, I also want to improve medical and emergency services for local residents. Since I am a parent, especially with three boys', I have experienced firsthand the need for medical attention in an emergency. As I am sure you are aware, this area (Rt. 132-Grand Avenue/Deep Lake Road in Lindenhurst/Lake Villa) is in desperate need of a hospital facility close by. Being a former EMT in this area in particular, time is of the essence when transporting a critically ill/injured patient and having a hospital close by can dramatically increase a patients postive outcome--the first hour is called the "golden hour". I am aware that Vista Health Systems recently broke ground in Lindenhurst in this particular area (Grand Avenue/DeepLake Road) to build a freestanding emergency center with the hopes of having it completed by January, 2011; however, we still need a hospital in the area. Illinois has not approved a new hospital in nine years. The new free standing emergency facility that is to be built in Lindenhurst will have the ability to transport patients via helicopter or ambulance, which is great; however, when weather becomes an issue, which it often does (snow storms/fog etc) helicopters can be grounded, so again time is of the essence (then we are right back to the long transport time, which can be 20 to 30 minutes or longer depending on which part of Lake County you would be transported from and that is with lights and sirens not to mention weather interference, which would increase the delay even more so). We pay taxes and contribute to this economy, we deserve quality care. We still need a hospital in this area and I will work to get it for our community. Also imagine the jobs this new hospital would create.
I am also tired of hearing about corruption in Springfield. Democrats and Republicans are both guilty, and it is time for a change. Transparency and accountability are a top priority. I have operated a successful and reputable business for decades. As an honorable businessman, I will not sacrifice my integrity or misuse public funds.
District 61 is a place we all call home. We live, work, and our kids' go to school here and I want to get to know the people in this community so I can listen to their concerns and together communities working with communities we can make a difference.
Basically, I am like you! I have the same concerns as you and I too am fed up with the status quo and I want to fight for our children, families, seniors, disabled veterans, small business owners, and social service providers. I talk with other small business owners and local residents day in and day out when I walk door to door in our community, and attend community events--they all feel the same. I have a strong record of real involvement in our community. Just like in my heating/air conditioning business and being a former police officer and EMT, I am a trouble shooter and a problem solver and this philosophy carries over to every aspect of my life. Let's make some changes, end corruption once and for all, improve local services, protect education and begin the road to economic recovery!!
I'm a down-to-earth guy, I'm honest, straight forward, open-minded, and trustworthy. I'm very energetic, dedicated and I'm a go getter. I'm not just a talker, I'm a doer, with me what you see is what you get. To me it's ALL ABOUT THE PEOPLE--people needing people and working together towards a common goal. There is alot of work that needs to be done. I am a fighter for the people and I am eager to take on the challenges and be your strong voice in Springfield and with your support, our District will have a bright future.
DON'T BE A PART OF THE PROBLEM---BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION
